Created by the State of Illinois to meet its renewable energy goals, Illinois Solar for All focuses on the people and communities who can benefit the most from the solar energy economy. This includes income-eligible and environmental justice communities.
Partnering with agency PACO Collective, Mango was asked to reimagine the user experience of the website and organization of the content to simplify the difficult process of how the program works. In addition, Mango was tasked with the development and deployment of the website within WordPress.
THE CHALLENGE: Simplify a participant’s journey to see if they are eligible for the program.
Old website
New Website Map and User Experience
After interviews with key stakeholders, and an audit of over 65 core pages, and almost 1,000 pages of newsletters and announcements, Mango engineered the ideal sitemap and wireframes for the site to optimize for search engine optimization - the primary way participants find ILSFA.
The plan was to prioritize key messages and content so participants looking for solar could answer their core questions and to check for eligibility, while creating separation with vendors who visit the site to become a vendor or find program updates.
This led to a solution that separated the site into a “Resident” side of the website, which served as the default landing space, and a “Vendor” side to eliminate confusion.
This led to the elimination of unnecessary content, and a streamlined and intuitive global navigation.
Application of the New Brand Design
For each of the new pages outlined in the sitemap, a new design look and feel was applied across the board before development to simplify site development and eliminate questions during the development stage.

Website Development and Deployment
Before launch, Mango worked with IPA on Salesforce integration to ensure no data was lost from the old website instance, and that data would be captured in a consistent manner on the new website.
THE RESULTS: After only four months since the launch of the new site, the ILSFA program has seen an increase in time-on-site of 45 seconds, and organic search has increased by 22% year-over-year.
